Wave Motion

Why is it important to know about wave motion and how a wave interacts with items, such as a bridge?

If you know about wave motions and other such factors when you are building a bridge, you can predict the erosion and what direction the most pressure will be coming from on the bridge. That way you can build it accordingly and to better deal with the environment that it will be dealing with over time. THE END

So you know how the waves will affect the bridge. If they build a bridge too low the waves could slowly damage the bridge till it breaks. That is why it is important to understand wave motion.

You want to know how the motion of the wave will affect other objects. The wind for example could affect the bridge to swift. You need to take this in to consideration when building so you know how much give is has to have. You also need to understand the waves of the water underneath the bridge. You don't want the waves to be crashing up onto the bridge.

A bridge needs to have a structure that will give a little in the wind and weather. This way they will not collapse or have structural damage if there is an earthquake or high winds. This makes our bridge that we made good because it has a little bit of give.

It is important to know about wave motion with bridges because the bridges need to be built suitable for people to drive on. Different structures of bridges need to adjust to the different environments in which they are built in. The strengths of the wavelengths in the water and the direction of them, need to be considered as well.

This way we will know how they will react with different types of waves hitting the bridge. It could show you how much damage they may take through out the years. It also shows how we can improve the design.
