Energy transferred as heat turns water into steam. This cause the balloon to expand and get bigger. It shows how a principle of thermodynamics work.

The air one was slow and didn't go very big. The water was slow but got big. The alcohol was big and fast. It showed us examples of how energy is transferred as heat to do work.

It shows us how the energy can be transferred. It also shows the pricipal of thermodynamics and how they work.

The balloons were inflated as the materials within the beakers were heated and expanded.. and vice versa. THE END

As the air, water or alcohol was heated, the particles began to move quickly and spread out. This caused the balloon to expand. Once the heat was removed, the balloon would gradually shrink back to its normal sized depending on the substance. This lab showed us how energy is transferred into heat as work.

I didn't do the lab, but by the looks of everyone else's post and by what I was told in class, there was chemicals that made the balloons expand and then shrink back down. This is important to the chapter because this chapter deals wit thermodynamics.
